Chapter 6

Leo looked at Donnie, who was drifting off. Holding his pizza in his hand. He frowned, worried. Since Koji's awakening, Leo thought Donnie's sleep would get better, but its decreased. The eldest put his hand on Donnie's shoulder making the genius jump a bit. Donnie turned his head to Leo, giving him an annoyed look. "What?"
Leo pulled his hand back, resting it on his empty plate. "Why dont you take a break. Sleep."
"Cant. Koji---"
"Will be fine Donnie." Leo said interrupting his brother. "Your body cant take much more. When was the last you slept? or ate?" He asked, seeing how exhausted his brother was. Donnie seemed like he was about to protest when Mikey came in holding Donnie's lap top in his hands, Raph following behind him. Mikey sat next to Donnie, smiling big. "Dudes, i just won a contest on this site! Im getting a free game!"
"Undertale crap?" Raph rose a brow sitting beside Leo. He had his comic book in hand.
"Its not crap! I saw lets plays and let me tell you, it hurts. So much feelings. So much love for these characters---"
Raph groaned, "Shut up already."
Donnie watched Mikey for a moment and looked over his shoulder. "You have an a art account? You dont even draw."
Mikey smirked, not responding. Leo rolled his eyes and stood. "If you guys have had food now, we should go on patrol for badies."
Raph threw his comic, getting onto his feet. "Heck yeah!"
Mikey whined a bit but set the laptop aside. "Can we not take to long? I hear that the game is a long one, and I'd like to start it as soon as possible." He smiled big, showing teeth to his older brothers. He frowned when they were glaring at him. He folded his arms. "Oh sure Leo gets to geek out about space heroes, but im the bad guy for getting into this kinda thing."
Raph rolled his eyes and grabbed the youngest shell, "Come on fanboy, you can geek out while walking." He said, shoving him ahead.
Donnie stood up ready to get his staff but Leo put a hand in front of him. Donnie glowered. "Whats the deal?"
"Rest Donnie."
"Leo Im fine---"
"Yeah I know, but I dont care. You havent even touched your pizza."
Donnie folded his arms. "Im fine..."
"I know, but im not chancing your life because you wanna be as stubborn as Raphael. Your not going Donnie." Leo said with a stern face, though it softened when his brother's eyes shifted away in despair. Leo laid a hand on his brother's forearm. "Im not doing this to get back at you Donnie..." He said, hoping, no praying that his brother would understand. "Im worried, every one of us are. Its been weeks since you has a good nights rest."
Donnie glared at his brother, before looking over to Raph. Raph's face told him something, his brother's words rang in his head, shifting his eyes over to his younger brother. Seeing those blue eyes, memories of Mikey leaving flooded back. If it wasnt for him, his baby brother would of never gotten captured and hurt, the genius's eyes finally laid on his older brother, anger faded. Guilt consumed him. What if that would happen again? He couldnt bare to see those who he held dearly to get hurt again, cause of his actions. He stayed silent as he turned away from them, grabbing his pizza. He quickly hurried past Leo and dodged Mikey's hand. He then bounded up the stairs and shut the door on them. He stood there for a moment, leaning against his lab door, staring at his untouched pizza. He sighed. Shaking his head pushing back his emotions, and the daunting memories that haunt him. He went to his desk, setting the pizza down. He looked to his computer, wondering if he should just do some data research on the kraang but his eyes caught the small turtle that was covered up by a blanket in a cot in the far corner. He hesitated a moment. Slowly approaching the sleeping boy, he carefully grabbed a seat. Settling down, he stared at the small child. His face looked disturbed, and he was sweating. He frowned. Wheeling himself to the near by table, he grabbed the rag that rested on the bowl. He dunked the rag in the water, squeezing it out, folded neatly he placed it on the boy's forehead. He stayed near the boy, images flashed in his head, swirling in his mind. The blood smelled horrible. He closed his eyes, putting his elbows on his thighs, his hands holding his face. Shredders blades going right through him, Mikey's limp body laying there, not knowing if he was dead or alive. Memories to Mikey's outburst replayed over and over again. Leo's words filled his brain. He knew his brother was just being cautious, as usual, but he didnt listen. This was all his fault. If he hadnt argued with Leo. None of this would happen.

This is all your fault.

Your just to stupid.

You cant even save a boy, let alone your brother.

What kind of ninja are you?

Donnie finally let out a soft sob, slowly his sobbing turned into crying. The words drilled in his head, feeling his body panged with arrows, shoving him down. He rose his head, pulling his hands away. He felt his lip quiver a bit. He gritted his teeth, wiping his eyes. He closed his eyes tight, hanging his head down. He heard a cry escape his voice, he felt it hard to breathe, crying this way. He was glad nobody was here but the boy who remained in a dreamworld. He gradually composed himself, standing up he went to his desk, wiping his eyes again. He breathed in and out a few times, trying to calm down. But everytime he was centered, those words came back, the voice in his head kept taunting him. He slammed his fist on his desk, annoyed now. "Stop it!" He shouted at nothing. Suddenly, it all went silent. The voice went away, and it seemed still. He took a moment to recover himself. Getting a grip on his emotions, he shoved them back, feeling his face go blank, just as his mind was. He gazed at the untouched pizza, before turning and heading out of his lab.
He headed for the couch, He sat next to his lap top. He picked it up and placed it on his lap. He decided to do some surfing to pass the time. Slowly, his eyes grew heavy, even though he didnt want to, he surrendered himself. Sleep eventually consumed him.
****
Raph skidded to a stop on a roof top. He grunted a bit when Mikey rammed into him. He shoved his baby brother off a bit, annoyed.
Mikey held up his hands. "Sorry about that."
Raph sighed, rolling his eyes. He looked over to Leo who normally would be ahead of them. But he was behind. "Leo, lets go back. We are all worried about Donnie."
Leo shook his head. "No. I want to know the story on Koji. And why Shredder would need him."
"Simple. Like Karai, Koji was a pawn. Now can we go back?" Raph asked, folding his arms. Mikey watched the two, feeling a familiar feeling.
"No. Koji may be still in danger. Donnie just needs rest. Why not you and Mikey go." Leo suggested.
"And let your ass alone?" Raph rose a brow. "No." He then took out his Tphone.
"Who are you calling?"
Raph smiled a bit, "Hey April...Can you do me a solid?" He winked to his brothers before heading away from them. Mikey watched Raph, then looked over at Leo. "Your scared arent you?"
Leo glanced at Mikey then rolled his eyes. "Of course not Mikey."
Mikey deflated a moment, closing the gap between his big brother, he hugged onto Leo's arm like he used to do when they were small tots. "Everything will be okay...right Leo?" He gazed up at Leo, reading his older brother's expressions.
Leo laid a hand on Mikey, smiling a bit. "I'll make sure things will be okay."
Mikey returned the smile, Raph's talking diverted his eyes from Leo and onto Raph.
"Thanks a lot April. Yeah, Yeah. See ya." He then hung up, nodding. "Okay lets go get some baddies."
Leo rose a brow. "What did you do."
"Just had April to watch Donnie, and do my chore so Donnie wouldnt do it. I owe her one though. So lets go." He said, then dashing off. Mikey grinned, glancing at Leo, then following after his brother. Leo watched the two, rubbing his head. He sighed, smiling a small one. He then fled after them calling out for them.
****
April made her way though the tessils. She made her way down the steps and looked around seeing how dark it was. The red head's eyes caught sight of Donnie, The purple masked turtle was sprawled out. The laptop on its side, leaning against his thigh. The teen headed over, dropping down into the pit, getting a closer look. Taking notice to his knuckles that were a bit bruised. She wondered what had happened, picking up the laptop carefully, she looked at what he was searching up. Raising a brow at the puzzle he was on, She chuckled lightly. Closing the laptop she set it aside and then grabbed a blanket that was nearby. She covered him up and sat on her legs beside him, on the couch. She stroked his head, seeing his mask had wet stains under his closed eyes. "Donnie..." She said softly.
Donnie made a muffled sound, stirring a bit. Soon the slender turtle's body relaxed. April kept her gaze on him. She had wondered what was up with her best friend. Donnie usually talks to her, but for a few weeks he's been distant, she was worried. He usually confides to her. She sighed softly. She got up and headed off to the kitchen. She set down her bag on the kitchen table. She rolled up her sleeves as she made her way to the sink. She put in her headphones, turning on some music to end the silence. She bobbed her head, soaping the rag and washing a pan.
Her thoughts left her brain as the words of the songs filed in afterwards, soon she heard her voice produce the words, eventually she was letting loose and having fun with this.
Donnie opened his eyes, staring at the ceiling, frowning up at it. When did he fall asleep? He motioned his head up, along with his body. He suddenly noticed his laptop was to the side and he was covered. What in the world? He wondered. Though his thoughts were muted when he heard singing from the kitchen. Slowly he stood and got out of the pit. Closing the gap between him and the kitchen he pulled back the curtain. His body was hulted when his eyes laid on the red haired beauty. She was...Dancing? And singing? He smiled a bit, silently sitting down, enjoying the show. She was so beautiful, even when her hair was a mess, and she was sweaty, she glowed. In his eyes, she was the perfect being from the gods themselves. The show went on for a few more minutes until she turned around with a rag in her hands, she jumped, which was of course the cutest thing she could do. Donnie chuckled. "Great show April." He teased when she took her headphones out.
"Not funny dork!" she spat, obviously upset that she was caught doing something silly as dancing and singing while doing the dishes.
He gave her a soft look, smiling still. "Doing some dishes?"
"Yes, Raph wanted me to, along with other things." She said. Donnie watched her as she hung up the rag and then went over to sit beside him. "So um. How's Koji doing?"
Donnie shrugged, looking at her. "He's, uh, okay."
"Why say it like that?" She asked, concerned. Donnie shifted, shrugging. The turtle went mute for a while before April sighed softly. She laid a hand on the boys arm. He looked over to her. His big brown eyes, melting her as always. "Donnie...you'll tell me whats wrong right?"
The turtle gave her a confused look. "Nothing's wrong."
April eyed him, "Donnie, dont play that card with me. I've known you longer then you think. These past few weeks youve been distancing yourself, hardly interested in anything, in eating, fighting, even making inventions."
Donnie's smile slowly faded, he turned his head away from her, his eyes boring on the counter. "Donnie.." She rubbed his shell. "Talk to me, you used to do that. Remember?"
Donnie looked away, feeling his emotions crawling back, remember his episode back in the lab, he shook his head a bit. "Talk about what? My feelings? April Im fine, unlike girls, guys dont talk about their feelings."
April was somewhat offended, she bit her lip a bit then rolled her eyes at that comment though she had to remember, Donnie was never that type of guy to say such things, he's just getting defensive. She reminded herself. She innerdly sighed. "Donnie, this has nothing to do with gender, Its okay to cry."
Donnie stayed silent for a moment, putting a hand on his head. He closed his eyes, she could hear him struggling with his breathing, as if he was trying to keep it in. "Donnie...please dont shut me out." She begged.
Donnie felt his chest ache, the voices slowly came back, filling his head, distracting him from his emotions. April watched Donnie turn away from her, his shell to her. Stood up and laid a hand on his shell. He wasnt crying, but his eyes were glassy. She silently wrapped her arms around his neck. "You dont have to be tough with me Donnie." She told him, hoping he'd give up the whole not crying act. She thought it didnt work until suddenly his arms around her, his head on her chest, his shoulder motioned up and down, he was crying. She really hadnt seen this side of him. It broke her heart. She didnt feel good. "Im sorry..." He softly said. April stroked his head. "Dont be Donnie."
Donnie shook his head and held April tighter, feeling as if she was gonna just disappear in his arms. April silently stood there, hugging him. Her big blue eyes shifted when the curtain went back, Leo appeared, Mikey, then Raph. She put a finger up to her lips then went back to rubbing his shell. "Its...all my fault..." Donnie confessed, which made April do a 180.
"What? Whats all your fault?" She asked.
Donnie pulled back a bit, letting April caress his face, "Jus...Leo and I...Koji... Mikey..." He listed then looked at her.He looked away. April glanced up to notice the others were still standing there, she gave them a look. Sending them a message, Raph recieved it, and soon Leo did. Though Mikey kept staring frowning until Leo came back and pulled Leo out. April gazed back at Donnie. "Donnie, you never knew it would be like this. You and Leo had fights before right?"
Donnie nodded, "Yes."
"So youll make up, like always. Mikey is alive and fine---"
"No thanks to Koji, I couldnt even save my own baby brother---"
April placed a finger to Donnie's lips. "Donnie, you saved him by acting on it, and you saved Koji too." She lifted a finger then gave him a small smile. "Your a hero Donnie..." She felt her cheeks getting a bit hot and felt a bit flushed. "And.. your my hero."
Donnie widened his eyes, lifting up a bit more, "W-what?"
April looked at him, then kissed his head, pulling away she dodged the question. "Sit and relax, Ill make you something. Assuming you havent ate yet." She never really knew that the guys could blush until the day she saw her best friend do it, and it was still kinda cute when he did it. Donnie watched her go to the counter, he smiled a bit, feeling a bit better. He stared at her. She made him better. If only he could just tell her how he felt. He looked down at his hands. If only he were human. It'd be much easier, right? He shifted his eyes up to the girl he adored. I love you. I love you April. Just say it. He snapped at himself, he shook his head, glaring at the table.
"Donnie.." He looked back up, staring into those blue eyes, counting those freckles spread across her baby face. Red hair framing her face. Her smile made his heart stop, as it usually does. "Do you feel better?"

Donnie gazed at her, then stood up and went to her. He put his hands behind his back, giving her a smile, revealing his gap. "With you here, Im always better." He confessed, blushing a bit.
April smiled bigger. "Good, now lets get to baking some dessert." She then winked and headed for the fridge. She returned to Donnie and set the coolwhip down. The girl took his hand and lifted it up, gazing at his hurt knuckles, her eyes shifted up to meet his. "Talk to me okay? Dont hurt yourself." She said softly then wrapped her arms around his torso. "Im here Don, Im your rock."
Donnie was a bit puzzled, though pleased. He smiled a bit and returned her hug, rubbing her back. "O-okay."
She pulled back to gaze at him. She was blushing, and something was itching at her, kiss him. Do it. This is your chance April. She cupped his face and pulled him to her, their faces inches apart. He leaned in more, making their lips graze each others.

"Yo!" Mikey hollard from the living making the two jump in surprise, April was the first one to pull away, turning to the counter as Mikey came in.

"I was wondering if April was gonna make some of her famous cinnamon pie." Mikey asked, he rose a brow in confusion when Donnie gave him a look. "Whoa man, why are you giving me that face."

"What face?" Donnie asked, annoyed.

"Uhh the Im gonna kill you face." Mikey replied, backing out of the kitchen, laughing slightly until he turned fully and quickly headed out.

Donnie glared at his baby brother. He rolled his eyes, growling a bit as he followed his brother out. Though he looked back to see April was staring at him, the teens shared a moment, their eyes on each other. Donnie tore his gaze away, placing a hand on his lips, feeling a bit hot and flushed. Did she? Kiss me? He asked himself. Feeling his face get even hotter.
****

Pale face. Hair falling out. Bruises on her face. The image kept flashing though his dreams, memories of screaming filed along. A man hovering over him, glaring down at him, he stared at the green eyes. Fear sunk in as the bottle rose. A womans scream was the last thing he heard till the bottle came down, he gasped, holding his chest, eyes opened wide. The small turtle shot up, feeling sweaty. He breathed heavy, scanning the dark room. He felt a cry come out of his mouth. The dark was never his friend, images of the guy came back, making Koji think that someone was actually there. Which led him to shout, he closed his eyes and hugged his legs, hiding his face in his lap. He put his hands on his head. "Mommy..." He called out, knowing she wasnt going to come though something inside him made him call out louder. "Mommy!" He looked up at the ceiling, tears forming in his eyes, slowly escaping onto his cheeks. "Mama..." He cried out in a softer tone. He bared his teeth, covering his eyes.

"Koji?" A voice echoed in the room, making the crying child uncover his eyes and look around. His eyes stopped when they spotted the red head girl. He squinted his eyes as the lights came on.

"We heard you crying, well I did." She said. Venturing towards him, she gave him a soft smile, "Are you okay?" She asked.

Koji gazed at her, trying to figure her out, he looked down at his legs. "I...I just had a bad dream again..."

April sat down in a chair and got close to his cot. "A bad dream?" She frowned. "Do you wanna talk about it?"

The young turtle stared at her for a good long moment before he shrugged and looked away. He hugged his legs, frowning. "I...I dont know."

April's eyes stuck on the scared up boy, she was hesitant when she pressed her finger on his cheek, tracing the lines. "Its like a number symbol."

"I think they are. Im not really sure."

She pulled back and put her forearms on the cot. "How did you get them? If I may ask."

Koji stared off into the distance, trying to remember though it was fuzzy memories came forth. A man with a bottle and knife. His father. He remembered those green eyes, glaring down at him. He felt his body tense. He closed his eyes tight trying to not think about it. April noticed the boy in distressed and got up. She sat down beside him. "Koji..." She began and then heard distant laughing from the other room. She thought for a moment then smiled down at the small boy, she took his hand. "We got some left over pie...Do you want some?"
The boy's face brightened up. "Pie!?"
She nodded. "Its Cinnamon."
He nodded rapidly. She chuckled and carefully picked him up, making sure not to taint any wounds of his. "You'll love it."
He wrapped his arms around her neck. "Hey, you know my name. but whats yours?"
April smiled at him. "Im April, but you already had a name picked out for me though."
"I did?"
She chuckled at his confusion. "Yes." She then kissed his head before heading out of the lab with him in her arms.
Strangely, he felt safe in her arms, even though they havent really talked, he liked the warmth of her. It reminded him of his own mother, when she used to hold him.

Even the smell of her, reminded him of her. He closed his eyes, resting his head on April's shoulder. "Mmmm mama..." He said softly. April sat down with him on the couch, beside Donnie, looking down at the sleepy boy she started stroking his head.

"Rest Koji. Pie will still be there."

"Will you be?" He asked, his eyes opened a bit, seeing Donnie and her. He gave them a small smile.

"I will always be here Koji. We both will." She said softly.
And I give you the gift of life! lol.
